Alyson Grider (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is the Co-founder and Clinical Supervisor for Limelight Recovery. She graduated from IU Bloomington School of Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health and Addictions. Aly offers lived experience with substance use and mental health challenges to enrich the therapeutic relationship through empathy and compassion. She embraces the Relational Cultural Theory and wants to partner with you through coregulation which will extend the sense of safety and motivation found in relationships to your connections outside of the therapy room. Aly believes that systems have created and perpetuated oppression that we see play out in our everyday lives. As someone who grew up experiencing many privileges, she acknowledges how that has impacted her beliefs about self, others and the world, and now strives to establish an inclusive practice, demonstrate cultural humility, and believes that people are the experts in their own lives. She does not approach therapy as the expert on what each individual needs, but attempts to use the knowledge and skills that she has gained from schooling, training on various evidenced based practices, and personal life experience as tools for coming alongside folks to figure out how they can each live in alignment with their highest values.
Aly specializes in Harm Reduction Therapy, is trained in Internal Family Systems informed EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. These approaches can be used to help others navigate substance use, trauma, depression, anxiety and other adaptive processes that we have learned over the course of life to deal with the stresses of this society and economy. Aly acknowledges the stigma and harm that western psychiatry has had on individuals with mental health challenges and strives to educate others on the recovery model. She seeks to empower folks to no longer identify as their diagnosis and/or problem but by the qualities and values their innermost beings tell them they should be in this life.
Aly is working on developing programming with the Indiana Recovery Alliance and offers in person therapy sessions for individuals impacted by substance use out of the IRA office in Bloomington, IN. Aly values supporting and educating other social workers through teaching a course for Indiana University School of Social Work on mental health and addictions, supervising the team of experienced clinicians with Limelight Recovery, and facilitating workshops in the community on harm reduction therapy. She helped start a mutual support group in Bloomington, IN called Many Pathways which offers a non-judgmental supportive atmosphere to assist people in achieving their personal recovery goals through self determination and self compassion.
Aly sees clients virtually and at the Indiana Recovery Alliance office Monday through Friday. Call or click the link now to request a consultation with her today

Over the past 14 years, I have been dedicated to providing therapy and have been steadily developing my private practice since 2013. A core mission of my therapy practice has been to provide support and unconditional positive regard to my clients. Many life transitions and challenges often go unspoken and are not normalized, leaving individuals to grapple with their difficulties in isolation. This can lead to mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression.
Opening up about your experiences and vulnerabilities to a compassionate, empathic, and skilled professional can make a profound difference in your daily life. It equips you with the coping skills needed to navigate life's inevitable challenges. Remember, you are not alone in what you're going through. Sharing your feelings with a caring professional can help dissipate any shame you might be feeling, allowing you to focus on solutions and coping strategies.
In addition to traditional talk therapy, I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a mode of therapy that differs from traditional talk therapy. EMDR is known for its ability to expedite processing time, offering clients a chance to find relief from intense emotions or trauma more rapidly.
My therapy services are tailored to various populations, including perinatal mental health, perimenopause support, addressing men's issues, and guiding young adults through their unique challenges. I am excited to join the Limelight Recovery team and cultivate even more therapeutic specializations to further assist and support my community.
